Het landschap opent zich, de lucht wordt frisser en je voelt dat het tempo vanzelf zakt. Onderweg maken we een korte stop bij een lokale argan-co\u00f6peratie waar vrouwen laten zien hoe arganolie nog altijd met de hand wordt gemaakt. Eenvoudig, eerlijk en met aandacht.<br><br>In Essaouira aangekomen is er geen vast programma. Dat is precies de bedoeling. Je dwaalt door de medina met haar witte muren en blauwe deuren, loopt over de vestingmuren met uitzicht op zee en kijkt hoe vissers hun boten binnenhalen in de haven. De geur van gegrilde vis, zout en wind hoort bij deze plek.<br><br>Er is tijd voor een lunch aan zee, voor een wandeling over het strand, voor een koffie in de zon of een moment van nietsdoen. Wie wil, kan langs kleine galeries en ateliers lopen, wie liever uitwaait langs de kust vindt daar alle ruimte voor. Essaouira nodigt uit om te vertragen.<br><br>Aan het einde van de middag rijden we rustig terug naar Marrakech. Met zand in je schoenen, zout op je huid en een hoofd dat weer leeg is.
